And all the people who are such fans of modern capitalism subscribe to the nihilism that snuck into Ethics when GE Moore threw it out of science for not being abstract enough Now everyone knows about norms and how they’re not really that concrete and just assume it’s impossible to understand But the source of the norms is the stories we tell each other about what happened… so Moore was wrong to expect that they would be objective, and we’ve had 120 years of deeply flawed reasoning about what to do as a result What if we have just been ignoring everything that really matters at the highest levels of scale, pursuing infinite abstraction, and that won’t even get us any closer to anything we want?
