yet lying often costs more than honesty in terms of mental effort, relationship damage, and long-term consequences irony is that truth, while initially uncomfortable, typically proves cheaper in every measurable way: it requires no maintenance, builds genuine relationships, and provides the peace of authenticity human psychology often makes us poor accountants of these true costs
