what if borrowing a drill from your neighbor was as easy as texting a friend?
i explored this idea as a design exercise. a neighborhood tool library app where you can list tools you own, see what's available nearby, and borrow from people on your street.
the problem is simple. most of us own tools we use once a year. our neighbors own the same ones. they all collect dust while we keep spending money on stuff we don't need.
i designed three screens to explore how this could work:
- a home screen with search, categories, active borrows, and recently listed tools in your area
- a tool detail page showing availability, pricing, max borrow time, and what's included
- a chat screen where neighbors coordinate pickup and return. like texting a friend, not filling out a rental form
