Ye was born in Fuzhou in 1881, he worked in Chinese Embassy in London from 1896, after returning to Fuzhou in 1901, he worked as the manager of a tea shop and a pawn shop.
In 1906, Ye married Ni Shuyu, the stability of life and the longing for the future may be one of the reasons why Ye started to shoot annual portraits.
This photo is the beginning of Mr. Ye’s 62-year portrait series, and the whole album is also one of my most important photograph collections.
