Ye took all the portraits in the local studios, though he is not the photographer himself, but Ye arranged everything such as the poses, angles and props.

China was about to get social transformation. For the first time, Ye took the portrait in a sitting position and cross-legged, which was not quite normal at the time.

Ye was born in Fuzhou in 1881, he worked in Chinese Embassy in London from 1896, after returning to Fuzhou in 1901, he worked as the manager of a tea shop and a pawn shop. In 1906, Ye married Ni Shuyu, the stability of life and the longing for the future may be one of the reasons why Ye started to shoot annual portraits. This photo is the beginning of Mr. Ye’s 62-year portrait series, and the whole album is also one of my most important photograph collections.

For this year's annual portrait shooting, Ye chose a sports outfit. From April to October of this year, the Fourth Olympic Games was held in London, where Ye had been living for five years, and it might have inspired Ye's interest in exercising. In this year, Ye became a father, and his eldest son Ye Jianming was born in Fuzhou.
