is there an in between setup for desktop that’s suitable without going all the way up to a rtx4090

I mean, I've a 3090 and I make it work.

But it means needing to quantize some models, and accepting that you'll be waiting longer for gens than would be delivered by an online platform.

Anything below 24gb VRAM and you'll need to quantize much much more.
