“We’ve built rooms for people to code. Now let’s build rooms for people to create.”

The more I’ve observed hackathons, the more I’ve felt something missing

We celebrate the builders of infrastructure (and rightly so). But what about the people who give that infrastructure meaning, emotion, identity?

The Cultural Hackathon🌹 is my reflection on why I believe we need a new kind of hackathon, one designed not just for shipping code, but for shaping culture. A space for creators to collaborate, experiment, and lead the next wave of expression

This isn’t about replacing the traditional hackathon (we need it). It’s about acknowledging a missing piece. The piece that inspires people to care, to connect, to participate. That piece is culture. And we’ve never been more in need of formats that help us build it consciously

I genuinely believe that if we invest more in creators ( through grants, support, and the resources they need to keep creating ), we’ll see more people drawn into these platforms

Whether centralized or decentralized ( though ideally the latter, since that’s the future we say we want to build ), creators are the bridge between the tech and the people. It’s great to focus on the technology and everything happening beneath the surface

But without creators who use these tools, who make them relatable and human, we lose connection. We lose momentum

I love what’s being built. I love what’s being designed. But I’d love even more for us to find better ways to invest in those who bring these platforms to life. The creators
