Everyone else has covered most of my own thoughts and feelings. Main thing I’d want to point out and appreciate is how much time was dedicated to the Q&A and the thought you both put in to each answer (and every other merkle employee I spoke with) It’s rare that folks get this much access and insight in such close quarters - a valuable part of the culture y’all have created that I hope will last in some form as the protocol grows! Personally excited about the clear line the team drew in the sand with announcing further investment in the wallet/trading direction as it allows other clients more space to take a differing opinion on content and culture

Dev day felt like we’re actually getting somewhere. Farcaster feels closer to a product that serves a set of users with a business model direction that could be sustainable to scale to a lot more users. Crypto is inherently financial and Farcaster could become the go to place for crypto users to discover, trade and create. The day was more about product features as it relates to user acquisition more than anything else with a continued focus on wallet, trading + investing and the social connectivity around it. Minimal updates to the underlying protocol bc it’s unclear what’s needed at that level as it relates to user acquisition. The network of people who have been around for years together at this point only feels like it gets stronger as it expands and brings other talented people into the network. I love the URL to IRL aspect of farcaster that’s strengthened the network with in person events.

Yesterday was my first time attending a Farcaster Dev Day, and I’m leaving feeling deeply energized and excited for what’s to come. My favorite thing about fc meetups is always the density of signal in the conversations, and yesterday was no exception. Every single person I spoke to was whip-smart and building something novel and interesting. It’s incredible to be surrounded by that kind of creative energy and optimism for the future of this network, even if only for a day. Your keynote was excellent. I really resonated with the new mantra: “Discover. Trade. Create.” We’ve been working on new ways for creators and builders to find discovery and distribution through @betrmint, so it was validating to see that focus reflected at the protocol level. I also loved hearing about the reasoning behind the Clanker acquisition. (As an aside, I’m so happy for and proud of @dish and co, who have worked so hard and navigated the choppiest of waters to get to this point. Clank! clank!) The emphasis on App Coins feels directionally correct, as I think it’s one of the most powerful metas to emerge from Farcaster, and it’s amazing to see so many teams bootstrap real businesses of all sizes by leveraging Clanker and this network... @bracky @bankr @likesdotfun.eth @tipn @noiceapp etc etc. I even made an index on @indexy called “Project Coin Summer”, which is full of exactly these types of apps and projects. I think the creator coin experiments happening across the ecosystem are interesting too and worth pursuing, and TBA is clearly leaning into that meta, but it was bullish for me to hear that Farcaster plans to double down on App Coins instead. I can already imagine builders launching new mini apps and perhaps being prompted to spin up a native token via Clanker in the same flow. A potentially powerful new primitive for the network. The lightning talks organized by @linda were also a highlight of the day; a great mix of builders of existing popular apps previewing new features, and new builders teasing upcoming launches. I was grateful for the chance to share a quick update on what we’ve been building with BETRMINT, and I really appreciated that you shared it out to the network too. Those kinds of small and compounding moments of recognition mean the world to those of us who love this place and are here to build for the longterm. Overall, Dev Day was an energizing and inspiring day of listening, learning, and laughing with my internet friends. Also, dinner was delicious. 10/10, no notes.

I think the direction of “Discover. Trade. Create.” is a continuation of what was presented in May, which is a great sign that FC has been on the right track for the last few months. The “come for the tool, stay for the network” paradigm resonates with me, although I do think that some clarity on what the “tool” actually is needs to emerge before doing paid acquisition: what are we calling people to? A better wallet? Social trading? Some combination thereof? To me, this is the most fundamental question that will need answering in the coming months. Caught up with @deodad and @horsefacts.eth as well, and remain extraordinarily bullish as they navigate similar questions with a shared worldview. I’m biased, but I love the Clanker acquisition for the “Create” part of the strategy and couldn’t think of a better team than @dish, @lobstermindset.eth, and co to figure out what launching inside of FC looks like. There are some true differentiators (obviously the social aspects, multichain infra, etc) that I personally believe FC can lean into here. I think FC will have some adjustment as it figures out what it means to have a de facto token, but that’s to be expected and generally bullish. Increasingly, I think that FC could benefit from a true product person to help navigate these things. Not a product manager, btw. Finally, the app coins take was refreshing and aligned with how I think about the space so forgive my bias. For the record I think perps/prediction markets add “hours” to the timeline and that prediction markets are a perpendicular path to utilize tokens at the varying time slots. Overall a fantastic event. I’m bullish and energized. Thanks to @linda and @esteez.eth for the day. 🙏

Honest Dev Day Take First, the good Quality of attendees and general community vibes always good. People are happy to be part of and contributing to the network Event organization and programming very good. No nonsense, no filler content like you see at similar conference-like events The new "Discover. Trade. Create" mantra is smart and strategic. Coherent, actionable strategy with room for upside. The main presentation was a really good anchor for the rest of the event Dan and Varun honest and straightforward about their thinking as usual. No bs Now, the other stuff Some mild skepticism among attendees that the wallet strategy has enough juice to multiply DAUs Some of the lightning talk presenters openly discussing their Twitter growth strategies during their demos 😅. This is probably something you would have seen none or much less of a year ago at an FC event, as the early '24 era network euphoria has faded and devs are much more sober about their paths to PMF and/or sustainable revenue Not dev day related exactly, but many us have been having conversations online around the pitfalls of the creator coin narrative and these convos very much continued irl. This is becoming a significant drag on morale/vibes/enthusiasm. The "if you don't like them, don't buy them" crowd is really missing the point Overall though, everyone there loves farcaster and is excited for the future

The presentation unveiled a bold new direction and I appreciated the context you guys gave around the decision and the framework for how you’re thinking about this next chapter Loved that nothing was off limits during the Q&A and there were some great questions across the board Great vibes overall, a lot of top tier builders in the room sharing ideas and feedback, was especially fun to watch the demos Bullish on what comes next Clank clank

I thought it was great!! clear direction, interesting points about what the state of crypto(and upcoming things like the clarity act) could enable, and explanations of the current strategy. have always appreciated how clear/open/direct you and varun have been with your thinking over the years great vibes overall from folks. obviously as always people continue to want more users in consumer crypto so it can grow, but I think both what the value props new apps(incl. mini apps and agents) and upcoming regulatory clarity can bring would be huge

Dev day was a great experience. The amount of high signal conversations I had with other builders in the ecosystem and everyone’s willingness to offer support and advice is unmatched Hearing the raw honesty from you and @v on having tried many things to unlock growth and not finding anything that stuck until now with the wallet was grounding. I think the idea of acquiring customers using the wallet as the lynchpin makes sense personally, probably easier place to compete than social networks when it comes to external acquisition channels The lightning talks were great too. Knowledge sharing between builders is a huge part of why I love this community. One place where Farcaster and Base could be more helpful to builders is unlocking additional funding opportunities. If it’s common knowledge who is writing $100-200k checks and deploying capital into the Farcaster ecosystem, can we create some discovery there too? Also, huge shoutout to @linda the event was well run, the space was perfect, and the food at the Thai spot was phenomenal. Had a wonderful time in NYC

one thing that i absolutely love about farcaster events: everyone (and i mean EVERYONE) is genuine and kind and absolutely lovely (i literally only fly to farcaster events, no other) second thing that i liked about this particular dev day: i like the direction that farcaster is going to, my perfect vision of farcaster is honestly a super-powerful trading terminal in farclet with existing (and more!) social features from the farcaster protocol, but i'm not the farcaster dictator (maybe i should change to farcasterdictator.eth) @linda is a treasure for organizing the event!!!

Huge level up for all the builders here. It legitimized the bottoms up ecosystem thats been forming on Farcaster for the last year or two. We've needed this. The dev eco will only accelerate from here.

The wallet-as-core-attractor direction feels good. Preso was perfectly simple. Even if people disagree, it’s clear where we’re headed and what the market is calling for. Clarity is always better than ambiguity. Clanker acquisition two days ago set the tone for the whole day. It was the backdrop against which the direction was measured, and helped the day make sense. Things felt cohesive. And as per usual, the builders are just fucking awesome to be around.

multiple apps with their own value prop and personas now sort of have sufficient infra to get users on their own as a crypto builder and crypto user, i'm bullish on the new social wallet direction, the farcaster protocol, and a community app like cura, all at once, with mutually exclusive reasons. https://farcaster.xyz/sahil/0x2483f98a

TL;DR: Thoughtful, consistent, growth-focused presentation from people that have earned my trust for doing what they say they'll do year after year after year. Engineer-y, serious, and warm vibes all around. 🫡🫡 My Notes: The day was overwhelmingly positive but coming from me that should surprise no one. On the Presentation: - "I really like Dan and Varun" - at the end of the day I was telling Linda my thoughts; might as well share publicly. You're smart, logical, consistent. It comes through in your presentations. Was talking to Abram about how you can't build trust without lots of time. I know you're asking about feedback on a single presentation, but you've been at this for 5 years so when I'm at devday listening to you speak I'm bringing a sense of trust that you guys have earned. - What I love most hearing you and V speak is your consistency in messaging. It's been almost 3 years since I first learned about Farcaster and here's what I keep hearing: a.) if you dont solve for growth nothing else matters, b.) growth needs to come in several orders of magnitude, c.) you will keep trying different things, with disciplined, maniacal focus until you figure it out. >> People can get upset when you change priorities or strategies (devs should build alt clients! no, just frames and miniapps! we're onboarding journalists and creators! channels is the key! investing in vertical video! crypto everywhere and everything!), but they can't ever accuse you of lying or being disingenuous. - About the content of the presentation itself and the thinking behind the "Discover Trade Create" direction - all the logic and reasoning behind this direction make perfect sense. For now. So just GO GO GO. Get that growth. - The presentation was entirely merkle focused, "here's what we are doing to drive growth" vs. developer-focused "here's what we are doing to make it easier for you to develop on Farcaster". As an indy dev, I would love if it was easier to develop on farcaster, if there was a dev rel team, if the miniapp SDK and documentation worked out of the box everytime etc etc. But, seeing things thru the lens of focus and growth I'm totally happy and understand. On the day itself: - Hanging out with farcaster devs is my happy place. It was awesome being in the room and getting face time with people. - Loved meeting merkle team, horse, deodad, shane, linda, daniel - first class people, so kind, generous, hard working. - Loved talking tech with people like grin and maxp, they both helped me unlock something about one of my projects I was struggling with. There's magic to being in the same place. - massive kudos to linda and emma. Logistics were smooth as butter. On the vibes: engineer-y, serious, warm
