> What happens when merchants realise they do not need Stripe to accept stablecoin payments, or any software-as-a-service vendor. 1. Consumers have cards. They want to use cards. They like cards. 2. Good luck convincing merchants to switch underlying ecommerce and accounting platforms. 3. Will stablecoin payments grow? Yes. But it has to be driven by consumer interest, not merchants. https://x.com/moo9000/status/1972588881733095900

1 is very us centric. Rest of world credit card points not so good. Uk might be closest. Eu almost negligible. Agree with the rest

agree merchants will do whatever consumers ask, but how do you get consumers to give up the chargeback? without this function (and the middleware companies to enable it) its a hard sell for consumers to pay p2p via crypto, which they are largely not asking for to begin with

they will definitely stop using them side note: i'm still irritated that during covid many restaurants started charging a 3% fee for paying with credit and it still hasn't gone away

Merchants been trying to get the government to cap interchange fees for a long time but consumers love those points. For the US consumer payment market stablecoins won’t make a dent. Changing the American consumer to keep wallet topped up ngmi.

the problem still, is when a person is not crypto native and does not hold any stable coin at all, the % fees are ultra high everywhere in that matter which i believe is a bigger problem to solve
