A lot crypto people seem to think being first to build something entitles you to collect rent from everyone else who comes later. People are only willing to pay rent if it gives access to attention / distribution / potential revenue.

I don’t feel entitled to rent but it does hurt when someone copies you explicitly without credit or permission

Honestly crypto people anyways have very bad intuition about making money because they‘re used to $$$ of tokens, grift, etc.

Spot on! I feel that's also the biggest problem in crypto atm and why the larger public might be afraid of touching it or feeling pushed out when they do join. Zora and TBA are both amazing and making this problem larger and more aggressive.

noticed this too, our great strength comes from remixing and forking… and if you don’t have a mechanism to incentivize that like you said, people aren’t going to pay rent when our premise is based around getting around rent seekers also pioneers get the arrows and all that

It's not obvious for now but tempo is growing Ethereum ecosystem Every new dev building on Tempo will build on Ethereum later, every new dapp on Tempo could migrate to the Ethereum ecosystem (and eventually will, just for growth purposes) Growth > short term revenue

Only willing to pay rent in the short term, in the long term, they will always try to disintermediate, look at all the "payment" chains launching recently.

Yeah, being first isn’t a free pass to rent-seeking. Distribution and value delivery are what matter long-term.
