A common misconception I see in product thinking / suggestions here: just do this thing I as a power user (or someone interested in decentralization) want. We're well past that from a growth standpoint. Settings and ethos aren't useful for driving at-scale consumer growth. The average new user is only interested in sign up or using Farcaster if they believe they will be entertained or make money (likely because a friend told them about it).

Can confirm. I’ve onboarded friends and they don’t care about protocol ideals, they care about if fc will be fun or useful to them every day

I might be projecting here but aside from entertainment and money, users want to be seen and recognized. At least users in high GDP per capita countries. It's much easier to achieve this on Farcaster than X.

First time a sent a Farcaster video to my family! Must be a good sign. I think the social share for videos should preview better on iMessage. Good be a good way for you guys to onboard.

You’re right—what power users want ≠ growth. But JTBD (Jobs to Be Done) tells us “entertainment” and “make money” are just functional jobs. People buy with their emotions. People join if they believe: “This will be worth it—socially, emotionally, or financially.” The real unlock: show that payoff fast.

You’re right given the current user base. But in my opinion, that last part (what new users are only interested in) is only true because Farcaster refuses to grow/market beyond the crypto crowd.

Yeah, this makes a lot of sense. Most people just want something fun or useful right away — they’re not thinking about values or settings at first. If it doesn’t hook them fast, they’re out. Power users forget how different the average user mindset is.

It’s tough, but true most of new users don’t care about ideals or features. They come for the fun, the money, or because a friend said it’s cool. Growth follows emotion, not ethos.

But they are useful for the builder you attracting which results in apps I think settings and ethos are very important because you want builders to build long-term on your platform, believe in your project and you, not just extract value

Yes, but why exactly does this sound like you disapprove? If the point is not to be entertained or monetize my account, why exactly does Farcaster exist and what does it offer it's users?
