Signull is smart, so no knock on him. But the take that "not getting AI" is existential for Apple is wrong. Consumers are not going to give up their iPhones, especially if 80% of the benefit for frontier models are all available via apps...on their iPhones. The mythical unicorn "new AI device" won't work because 1) messaging 2) camera won't be good enough 3) manufacturing a consumer-grade piece of hardware with good battery life and build quality in 2025 is still extremely difficult. Apple can do nothing on AI for the next couple years and then do a good enough job with power of defaults + privileged system access and be fine.

But P/E ratio will go down vs the apps now vs before? Maybe they can pull off the same deal with Google to have Gemini the default search/chat app?

I agree not existential, but it limits their growth. The product side has already stagnated, and services are the only thing still growing (I think). Leaving AI to be implemented by third party apps is a blunder to future growth.
