I was going to post this in /warpcast but the new channels system means I can't. So here it is: the new channels system is quite possibly one of the worst designed, exclusionary systems I have ever seen not only on any social platform, but on any platform in all of existence. I am saying this without hyperbole. I've had the pleasure of getting to work on & with a lot of social platforms through my time in enterprise dev, before going full degen in the crypto world. I've seen a lot of bad systems, but honestly, this one is just.. really out there. Exclusionary-by-default is not how to grow a young social network. And don't come at me with the "just use a different client" shtick. It's natural to get attached to a client/platform you've used for months, and feel dismay when there's a pattern of changes being made which detract from the whole reason you fell in love with it. I can't even imagine the thought process behind this one. It is absolutely baffling. Feels like a ghost town since it was implemented.

Happy to walk you through our rationale and see if we make improvements. But would need specific feedback on what you don't like and what you would want to see differently.

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for exactly how I phrased things while I was going through some caffeine withdrawal induced migraine π But yeah, would love to chat if you've got the time? My main take on it is it looks like a way to "pivot" the platform to being more X-like than Reddit-like, with channels/groups acting more like private facebook groups than subreddits/boards (as I thought they were initially taking inspiration from). Then looks like this decision was sort of doubled-down on due to the difficulties in getting on top of spam. I know I'm projecting from my own experience here and it may not be what influenced you towards the decision - but from being there myself and going nuclear to try clear out spammers/scammers from a network, it's what immediately struck me. I think it's led to the big victim being the FTUE - new users won't know why they can't cast in a channel, why some channels want sub payments etc, and have lost the most meaningful way to find friends on a new network.
