To say the 2024-2026 chapter of the intersection of art & technology via blockchain is disheartening or traumatic would be underselling it. Major pivots in unison that were a 180 of mission statement ethos, the loud majority (users) gaslit, ignored. Pivots to scale, not to survive. Beyond user experience (as both creator and consumer) which was not enjoyable for blockchain friendly/tolerant existing (creators / collectors) due to the intentionally inorganic feeds of discovery that made not recognizing how botted and manipulated the control of attention was and who was benefiting from this poorly executed attempt to fake it til you make you make it style of padding the numbers of D.A.U. while also earning at the infrastructure level, bot or human... Any objective user who's purpose is to be seen, and see who they follow, who actually logged in daily passionate, just couldn't not feel how purposely broken user experience was... You can't actually scale to real human users when what you're attempting to scale isn't designed for a meaningful, consistent real human experience. All of that aside, the absolute highest damage and biggest mistake the platforms that either sunset or likely will soon are guilty of, is the shift in how and what the founders, builders, employees communicated with the existing users they already had. Ego, Disrespect, Dishonesty, complete lack of transparency and worse, a complete failure of consistency or continuity or believable conviction. The narratives. features, changed, contradicted, and just had no real emotional weight... The most respected players began speaking to users like 2020-2022 twitter KOL's running a rebase ponzi on avax or bsc and treating users like first time retail aping into doge because of elon. I think that's the most memorable legacy being left behind for actual users who once championed and held these platforms and founders in high regard. "Holy sh*t, they really hated us and thought we were just stupid, we were never even actual humans to them, who is twisted enough to choose the path of success that requires A.O.E. and Crit damaging Artists, creators and the already rare minority of culture lovers still willing to support creative arts monetarily" Crazy how it all turned out... Indexing is expensive, imagine the multi dimension where instead of trying to scale as a successful business not over a 10-15 year run, but preemptively by faking success, not realizing the excuse and reason given to existing users who were very much vocal about their rejection of this sudden forced re-direction, was that these pivots were necessary to survive and keep the platforms running, so basically (You guys may be super active, but this model and mission statement isn't optimized for profit as a business, thanks for using our thing that literally would have zero function or worth without your creative passions being shared, but you are no longer needed here) To immediately in the same breath, going on coordinated marketing campaigns about how successful, how many users and how people are missing out on the new model, the model optimized for faking it til you make it, flooding it with so many bots, controling the flow of attention in such an obvious way, while creating a scenario where the cost to index the unavoidable sea of meaningless slop deployed, is so expensive... That even giving users a year heads up, or allocating what profits and fee were made, to ensure your platform had runway to exist in at the very least a read only mode a few more years. This include Farcaster, The Platform of builders, who crushed dissent of valid critiques, while circle jerking optimistic narratives that us plebs just couldn't understand...... and where are we in the present, The blockchain social app, isn't even used by platforms it defended to communicate the most important and critical time sensitive information about the end of those platforms...... But we were the a**holes and entitled for actually caring enough to share how the manufactured hype combined with overly tuned rigged mechanics, were just not clever or hidden enough or subtle for any real user to believe, feel and then experience if they logged in and used the thing you wanted people to use..... Horrible chapter in the history books for the intersection of art and technology, but at least I have a screen recording of art I collected that still truly inspires me and almost makes the blow caused to ever trust a company building for creative culture again...... almost.....
