Expand to read all: I think it’s important to get on record especially seeing the usual defense being dense Symantec’s purposely being obtuse. It’s not about if FC social isn’t dead. It’s a pattern of mistrust & dark patterns, bait & switch, disregard and disconnect. Eth’s entire ecosystem was built on art, you can’t rewrite history & make people forget that was the entire superchains identity for years. How it was marketed to get artist to participate & get the public engaged in collecting was very specific mission statements & ideals. I can pull tweets from 2020-2023 from the same people who now look down on people for not falling in line & going against everything that made people use those platforms as they striped all control and value & forced the ecosystem to pivot to no control, disposable hampster wheels for Spotify Penny’s, and forced us into corny memes. I don’t know if builders where actually in the trenches trading, but ETH was rarely where traders would degen. BSC, Avax, Fantom was were most serious (degen/shitcoin gambling) took place. Then solana captured all trading volume. Mainnet had one summer w/ Pepe where uniswap turned to feverish rotation of trading. I never got rich trading, but it supplemented when covid wiped my career and helped me survive. No one knew I traded that much, not irl friends, not music peers. It was done out of necessity to survive, not strike gold. Even at the peak of crypto mania, When we were selling 1/1 songs back to back for thousands, and the mission statements were noble, the sentiment from everyone not already in crypto was distain, mistrust, calling it gambling and scamming. Elon buys Twitter & suddenly the need for a real alternative social that isn’t rigged was greater than ever. Farcaster launched warpcast, and well. Our ecosystem on eth was just builders, platforms, artists and collectors and not many of us, So when fc launched, It felt more like a crypto linked in, and the warpcast ecosystem really didn’t care about artists or art.. but when channels launched, it incentivized those not building or focused on financial incentives, a chance to onboard our friends and audience here. And for a while, it felt nice enjoying human connection via shared interest without drastractions. Then degen tipping, bots, open rank, algos hit and it ruined the social part, especially for normal people looking for a social site and not a crypto linked in. Then channels we paid for got nerfed. Pivot after pivot, change after change. Users that aren’t incentivized and bias builders that weren’t interested in trading, memes, and being force fed seeing the people who built the platform more than the people they follow. It never really had a true chance to meaningful grow, because all culture was deprioritized and a site with no ADs or sponsors still felt the need to have algos and ranking where users have to digest stuff not of interest to them because why not, a vanity project that felt like being thrown into a merkle/base telegram chat is something that feels super relatable to onboard real users. But we stayed and made the best of it, cus the alternative is Twitter, and the hope of better alternative eventually is kinda the reason most people who aren’t bots and farmers came into crypto for. A better system for art, for privacy, for transparency, control and ownership.. So after a pattern of rugging features and tools that were hyped by the platform, The only consistent has been the whiplash of being fed narratives of hype, then losing the thing we invested more time into. Not dependable, not reliable, not consistent and absolutely not considerate or appreciative of real existing users. Why would risk onboarding people into this space when it’s more out of touch and authoritarian than traditional social. So yea, saying social didn’t work and you tried for years, but now we are all traders & here for fintech instead of meaningful connection and experience. The reality is this never felt like decentralized social. It felt exactly like everything else has since warpcast launched. And that’s a closed power trip, not built for existing users, but a perpetual hampster wheel of chasing users that don’t exist and a track record of experimenting with the hearts, time and energy of real humans who are just treated like disposable data and tools. No one’s left trying to improve the world with this tech, Just trying to grow and onboard a billion users to what? Casinos. Why can’t any of you get it through your head that financial incentives aren’t the motivations for 90% of real humans when logging online. How are we constantly being gaslit and looked down on by you all. You’re the ones who lost the plot and conviction, You can’t get annoyed at us for still wanting to achieve the goals you all marketed to us to get us here. People are saying Farcaster is dead because the faith and trust this can or will be anything meaningful is on empty…. There are things this world desperately needs right now, and our builders have completely abandoned trying to solve pain points and are all acting like the same big tech that’s harming humanity for greed.
