Personal anecdote My wife had a spot found on her mamogram. Due to dense, cystic breast tissue, it was most likely a cyst but she had to get Ultrasound+mammogram every 3-6 months for a while As these were now diagnostic, as opposed to preventative, we got billed more and they were no longer covered as preventive care. Feels really scammy and when you compare guidelines between specialist societies vs prinary care, the specialists always recommend more testing (and hence more billing) than prinary care (who doesn't earn anything from these extra tests) I'm glad to say her last (and final) scan came back fine, no cancer, but her having a good breast doc explain everything really put her at ease. Those conversations aren't easy

Had a family member with a similar issue and it was tough going back and forth with it. I’ve become a fan of 3D mammograms as they offer much higher specificity and sensitivity because of that.
