I took a photo of Jane WiIde in the pool. I love this photo (and the Instaxxx outtake I posted on Rodeo below) but it feels like such a transition point in my life, which I will get to in a minute. It was summer 2019 and I had just been on this really great road trip with my friend Olivia and I went out to LA and between the two trips I shot 31 rolls of film. One of those rolls was of Jane and a few of her friends. She invited me over to a friend's place but didn't tell me who it was. When I got there it was the place of this dude who kinda gave me the creeps. When I got there he told me that he told Jane not to tell me it was his place because he was worried I wouldn't come. He was upset that I had unfollowed him on Twitter or something. Turned out to be a fun day and I followed him again, but a few months later it turned out he did some truly horrific shit and my initial judgement was right one. 👇

But that summer was the last summer of my "youth". Okay, I was 39, but I was single and living this insane life of adventure and taking photos I loved and I look back on those 31 rolls as sort of that last gasp before middle age kicked in. A few months later one of my closest friends and roommates died, a few months after that the pandemic hit, and a few months after that I got into a serious relationship, and a few months after that I got a serious back injury and a couple years after that I left NYC to start a new life with my partner.
