So one of the reason I have been doing these story posts is because I have traditionally wanted my photography to speak for itself and I love people wondering what the fuck is going on when I present stuff without context... 🧵

Or I would put two unrelated images together that might give them new context.

I have never considered myself a writer, but to some degree I am. I have run a blog consistently for nearly 25 years, it was mostly about my photography, I have written millions of words. For my journalism work I constantly have to write into paragraphs and captions, I have even been paid to write professionally for some notable outlets like Vice, Playboy, Boing Boing (IYKYK) and the Daily Beast. When I was working for Hustler I found out that for interviews the writer got paid 3x the photographer and the subject didn't get paid. So I started doing the interviews and then paying the subjects from my photo budget.

Over the last year I have been sharing stories and photos over on my AlfaFrens and I have had such good feedback from it. I think part of it is just getting older and looking back on my life and realizing how many crazy stories I have and how maybe for the first time I should start think about doing a project that marries both words and pictures. If a picture is worth 1000 words, maybe I could give you 2000. https://www.alfafrens.com/channel/0xC85ABcEc6AE12Bb32CC9e1131682352fD9996E94

So I have been thinking about how to do it and maybe a month ago I was in the shower and I came up with an idea. I am gonna keep it under wraps for now (although I told my AF subscribers) but I have an idea to do a photo book with some of my best photos and stories, that also sort of acts as a type of memoir.

Now I have no idea if I am going to actually do this book, but the first step was to pull a ton of photos and that I finished today. I went through every 35mm photo I have ever taken and pulled all the ones that work with my vision. The book may have some digital too, but my film stuff feels more immediate and less intentional which is what I am going for with this.
