neuroscientist maps psychopathy in brain scans, finds his own lighting up like a christmas tree, then spends 250 pages debating whether he’s actually dangerous or just kind of a jerk. fun premise, uneven execution. the memoir-meets-lab-report structure can’t decide if it’s a netflix doc or a ted talk, and the “maybe i’m fine?” conclusion feels like letting himself off easy. some genuinely fascinating insights about how psychopathic traits can be channeled productively (hello, Silicon Valley), but the book loses steam when the author gets too introspective about his own relationships. worth reading if you like your pop-neuroscience with a side of mid-life crisis.
