yep, but the bulk of the early funding ($100MM or so iirc) came from Elon.

this was an incredible amount of personal risk to take on and he nearly went bankrupt 

he was also consistently belittled by NASA, Congress, Boeing, etc. despite the popular narrative that the government just dumped money on him…many authorities were vehemently opposed to public space flight in general at that time. he had to do a lot to prove himself and Falcon before those coffers really opened up

Still not downing him for that, landing a rocket was revolutionary.
I have legitimate criticisms.
Starship is a fever dream and not ready for any manned missions in any foreseeable future.
The launch cost now is much closer to market fwiw, probably bc of the new competition.
I used to be a fan until I saw that he likes to sell vaporware such as self driving.

SpaceX was founded in 2002.

13 years later, they were the cheapest launch provider in the world and it's only fair (and good business) that they received a good chunk of the pie by this point. i'm just trying to set the record straight about the early years that were almost entirely funded by Elon himself.
