btw @kia.eth were you around when SoundCloud had groups? (basically subreddit-like communities with their own discussions, playlists, chats etc.)

SoundCloud product managers totally botched the value proposition and then management started making brutal cuts. All they had to do was charge like $0.99 an upload. Go to war with all the other distributors on price and a “one time only” fee to upload a track for life. Then do a marketing campaign like “Distribution on your terms. Every website and phone is your platform. Affordable and everywhere.” The ubiquity of SoundCloud embeddable players is their greatest asset and no one has done it better. You can put them and share them anywhere. And they have a rabid following in emerging hip hop. They didn’t embrace it. So sad.
