My idle curiosity addiction is going to be hit hard if AI prices go up. Theory: Smaller predators have higher success rate but get fewer of their calories needed per kill. True of human predator work too. If your work involves a ā€œsuccess rateā€ that’s in the 10-70% range you’re a predator. If it’s higher it should probably be done by a robot.

It’s crazy how growing up in the Midwest I always believed making $100k a year salary was ā€œsuccess.ā€ It’s so not true anymore due to cost of living anymore. Maybe it’s middle class at best.

One week in and having trouble coming to terms with how much of an adjustment it has been going from one kid to two. My wife and I always swore we wouldn’t let having kids stop us from enjoying our favorite pastimes (like recreational sports, hiking, camping, etc) and tbh we’ve lived up to that pretty well since having our first. But the toddler plus a newborn is just a lot, I find myself wondering how people have more than 2 (or how single parents survive at all.) Tried going to a soccer game yesterday and it was so hard on my wife with me just being gone for 2 hours that I’ve opted out the rest of the season for my other soccer and volleyball teams. I know we’ll get into a flow state eventually and of course it’s all 100% worth it, but I really underestimated the adjustment for sure! (Obvious caveat that I love both my boys and wouldn’t change anything for the world. )

A simple example of how Perplexity is much better at giving answers directly. It saves me from wading through a bunch of ad-ridden news sites. Even the results below the top story section didn't have the answer.
