A huge trend in live streaming is that sites that are owned by gambling houses are offering better creator ad revenue splits than Twitch/Youtube, because all the eyeballs they attract can be converted to gamblers. If the end state business model is "get people to bet" we might be worse off than the attention economy.

You're right that it's just a new label on decentralized resource allocation networks that have been around for awhile. They bootstrap supply using cryptoeconomic incentives, and then open marketplace competition drives down price. Livepeer has grown to transcode over 3,000,000 minutes of video/week for 100's of apps.
