The reason effective altruism is inane bullshit is that EA's constantly play hide-the-ball with uncertainty. Driving to the store to buy skittles? There's a chance you kill someone. But then we are expected to believe pushing a button to save 10^100 shrimp will work with certainty? Let's make the button a single photon emitter that will pass through a 50-50 beamsplitter, of which only one leg will hit the 'button' that will 'save' the shrimp through unspecified means. This is how the world actually works. EA is the politics of solipsism: just ignore the noise & uncertainty in the real world unless it backs up your preconceived notions. https://morallawwithin.substack.com/p/yes-you-should-save-10100-shrimp
