Important read. People want to be in "the arena" more than they want to own their digital identity. While some things on X have gotten worse since Elon took over (e.g. racism/race baiting content), it's become much more important as the town square to talk about AI (& use AI via Grok). If they do care about "ownership", I imagine they see personal websites & Substacks as a way to have ownership and X is just a newswire. Substack is also quickly turning into a platform, but that's a separate issue. However I still can't get over the fact that if we were building social media from scratch we would still follow @mmasnick's Protocols not Platforms. Yes, X is the best place to put out corposlop PR to your fellow PMC denizens, but what about everything else outside the mainstream? https://daringfireball.net/2026/10/x_once_again_marks_the_spot
