when I first got interested in decentralized social and hadn't thought deeply about it a federated model felt like the obvious answer
the more time I've spent the more I've become convinced that global state is the better path (at least for a real-time broadcast based network)
many powerful things come out of everyone having the same access to the same data at the same time
many subtle but significant limitations come out of everyone not having the same access to the same data at the same time
