Yeah, I think we're going to end up in a world where people store their own data, and data of their friends forever, and the whole "expiry" thing is only going to apply for subsidized or paid storage from storage providers.
I'm pretty sure the way the casts are stored currently is in a merkle tree that you can always run proofs against even if not everyone has all the data.
