The Winged Victory of Samothrace An Icon of Grace, Power, and Motion. Towering on a marble prow, wings outstretched and garments swept by an invisible wind, the Winged Victory of Samothrace is one of the most celebrated sculptures of ancient Greece. Created around 190 BCE, this masterpiece honors Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. Discovered in 1863 on the island of Samothrace, it now commands a grand staircase at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
