The latest museletter from @foxwizard is timely for me, as I'm preparing for a series of limited-scope Farcaster-based launches for the New Creative Thing I'm working on with folks I met on the purple app. This quote he selected (by Gordon from Rune Soup) speaks to my preferred approach to these projects in the context of the Farcaster scenius: "Feed the leaks. This really is the right way to say it. To say anything else falls too dangerously close to knowing what should happen or seeking to be the sole agency forcing a preferred outcome. It is simply to show up and give energy to what is seeking to emerge through the web of connections in which you are an intentional node. This generates a permission field conducive to novelty." I still think Farcaster is the best place for nerds like me to "...show up and give energy to what is seeking to emerge through the web of connections in which you are an intentional node." The culture here is ideal for it. So... if you're reading this and you're concerned (as I am) that the emphasis on video may bring a culture change on the purple app that marginalizes those who prefer text-heavy feeds, maybe it'll help to know that all the projects I'm stewarding will cater to long-form readers -- especially those who enjoy slow-paced deep-dive convos and take an interest in gift economics. More news Real Soon Now. Looking forward to seeing what emerges. Word nerds unite! ✍️ πŸ“š https://www.foxwizard.com/feeding-leaks/

A very well put message. I resonate strongly with the attitude of feeding the leaks.

Likewise. It's worth quoting more from the piece to explain what "leaks" are: "The way remains non-obviousβ€”emergence is only ever truly apparent in hindsight. But there are glimmers to attend to, and leaks that lead the way." "Many of these options are leaks; portals to new worlds and ways. Except, of course, they have yet to fully reveal themselves." He even mentioned his inclination to "move quietly and plant things." Very /slowcore-hq coded.

What really resonates most for me in this moment is the idea that emergence is only apparent in hindsight. Many people driven to be on this edge of innovation that we all work to push forward are convinced they are part of some new emergence. I don't know that it's necessarily bad... but I think the danger comes in trying to create prescriptive emergence. That's the corporatistized facsimile of emergence; designed to maximize the value extraction throughout the process and reward the sharks at the top of the food chain who are able to funnel that value extraction into their pockets. I think this is counter to the idea of feeding the leaks. It's not organic; it lacks the depth of true emergence. Very few new tech innovations since the early emergence of companies like Apple have had the same level of cultural impact. New tech waves come and go now without generating such strong brand fandom, despite the many efforts to replicate that "magic". The value of Blockchain, in this regard, is that it creates the potential for natural emergence to capture value in a decentralized way and retroactively reward those who actively contributed to the creation of this emergence. This is why I believe that immutable digital provenance is one of the most killer-features of Blockchain that has yet to be fully realized to incentivize creators and builders to tap into their full potential.

🎯 Well said. "Prescriptive emergence"... lol. Now there's an oxymoron. It takes humility and wisdom to steward the unfolding of true emergence responsibly. Not easy when value extraction patterns are so thoroughly normalized.

β€œIt takes humility and wisdom to steward the unfolding of true emergence responsibly. Not easy when value extraction patterns are so thoroughly normalized.” <β€” this is so true. Gosh, @danicaswanson, thank you again for the share and kind words. I have a clear desire to participate more in these conversations with you, @trigs and /slowcore-hq – I just seem to be in a process of *still* finding my own natural rhythm with this. My corporate clients are still mostly on linkedin and instagram, and β€˜in this economy’ I still need to attend to these spaces. Much as it saps me. And often triggers me, causing me to become Pissed Off and prone to complain/explain. And that’s Not Great. And so already I have broken my quiet commitment to not complain as much. I suspect I have become susceptible to the influence of entities, and need to rekindle some appropriate centring ritual before I engage on such platforms. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. 🧑
