i miss the old frames
they were truly special – limited in the way they render, 4 buttons, two aspect ratios.
they all felt pretty natural – UIs were common – same buttons, same inputs.
they felt like a part of the network.
remember frames v2 style guidelines? nobody does.
surely branding has to be put.
but bro, when it's completely different to farcaster, it really feels like an iframe. "lol it's just a website in a website". nearly no magic in it.
frames also disappeared from my feed almost completely. probably because i don't engage with them at all.
it also feels that since the implementation boundaries were dropped, the expectation has risen a lot as well.
when I saw the DOOM in a frame (made by @cassie iirc), my jaw dropped.
when I saw games @undefined was developing, my jaw dropped.
now though? i don't feel it. at all.
boundaries forced people to put 150% of creativity. surely UX wasn't great. but IT FELT SPECIAL.
frames v2 are awesome for financial mini-apps. there's value in connecting my fc wallet to apps and click faster.
frames v1 were awesome for 1-step entertainment.
i'd like to see if having embedded mini-apps can make it any different, having them using FC UI kit. i don't want this "portal" experience. i'm too lazy to click, spend my time connecting the wallet and then being disappointed from the frame. it makes me click less times further. 3 replies
