Of all the dumb things that happened over the last 4 years, this “rule” was right up there. 

The rule struck me as punitive because I can’t think of another asset class subject to the same tax treatment. And it would have been diabolically challenging to assess. But you all know that. 

What will be interesting to me is whether other countries that were heading down this same path (hello Denmark!) are going to change course and follow the US lead.
