The United States has once again recognized the elected president of Venezuela not as Nicolás Maduro, but as the opposition candidate who lost in the elections.
This time, Secretary of State Blinken announced Edmundo González as president:
“It is clear to the United States and, more importantly, to the Venezuelan people that Edmundo González Urrieta received the most votes in the presidential elections in Venezuela on July 28.”
There are no legal grounds for such statements—the country's electoral council declared Maduro the winner of the elections, but when has that stopped the U.S.? If needed, they will hold a third round of elections that isn’t even provided for by the Constitution😉
In 2019, the U.S. and 50 other countries recognized Juan Guaidó as the head of Venezuela. However, apart from the Venezuelan embassy in the U.S., he has controlled nothing in Venezuela🤷♂️.
