25 years ago, I quit smoking cigarettes.

At the time I'd been a heavy cig smoker for nine years.

As it happens I was the first in my circle of smoker friends to successfully quit, and even after all these years as a happy non-smoker I still remember how difficult it was in the early days to sit indoors alone and struggle with my addiction while everyone else went outside to light up and socialize. 

Like most smokers, I had many failed quit attempts.

Not sure why I finally succeeded on July 2, 2000.

But I do think it's worth celebrating the silver anniversary of my quit date, even if it's only through a cast.
