Biggest thing holding onchain music back (and music in general) is anytime someone tries something new people find ways to shoot it down because it doesn't directly benefit them. There's such a scarcity mentality around music that it's no surprise most people don't consider it to have value.

Biggest hurdle to me is the lack of a flywheel. Why in gods name would I pay for a song collectible if I could just listen to it instead?

My learnings on collecting Music NFTs: - Collecting is more just 'listening' - Is not for passive fans - Way of supporting artists you like - Enables artists to foster intimate fan communities (Rarely happens in Web2) - For hard-core fans, interacting with artists is invaluable.

would you characterize dealing with gas as a friction point for artists and/or collectors?

agree with intro, disagree with closer I’m hard pressed to find anyone who finds 0 value in music.

I dunno if people will value to like earlier. David Bowie nailed it several years ago.

I don't quite follow the scarcity bit. I had thought people don't consider music to have value because it's been commoditized to the point that albums full of short music suitable for reels is all anyone cares about anymore?

actually i think sound is the most intimate experience for consciousness… also makes sense… all (on the experiential plane) is vibrational only, music is the most straight-in communication/transference

The scarcity play does not work with music. We yet need the proper web3 music vehicle.

I have been passively learning more about the industry and understand if there is an opportunity to setup a more b2b licensing architecture. With @10kdotworld.eth, I am getting more optimistic on it.

The other issue with Music is that art doesn't really have a significant spotify/SoundCloud equivalent already. So with music we are competing with pretty much free streaming everywhere- which sucks for the musician, but great for the consumer. Unless you are Taylor swift, you make nothing as a musician via streaming.

I reckon the issue with music so far that I've found is that there is no value in owning the music, listening to it for free serves the purpose - perhaps innovating in some way ie opening nfts up for sampling serves a utility

I think music is harder to share and verify, whereas you can just display a jpeg just anywhere easily. Like another art form, music does have value, I think it's all about the right incentives and hype to attract both listeners and creators en mass.
