BTC and ETH both on track to break ATH this year. Yet I still feel like we have at least 12 months before we're at a point where crypto is genuinely usable and accessible to the vast majority of the world. Am I being too skeptical in this logic or will price always outweigh usability?

I vibe check this by sending a buddy the latest and perceived easiest thing to do - everything wallet related especially on mobile is still not there Warpcast is the exception to the rule though - the only barrier there is paying to get started, so in countries where that isn't the case I feel like its the bar rn

In crypto, price has always outweighed usability. It is a very speculative asset. Usability will come.

For BTC, price *is* the usability. As a fixed supply store of value, you hope that price continues to go up. For ETH, price is *proportionate* to usability. As a constraint on utilization, price rises as more people use it. Let’s hope that efficiency continues to go up, or consumer uses are dead in the water.

The broke ATHs in 2021 and nothing happened. They'll break ATH this year and still nothing would happen. Mass adoption won't happen just because it's superior tech (decentralized n immutable). Mass adoption happens when lives improve 10x. The only way is to abstract away so much that it seems like a normal app.

Agree on the path of the coins, but I actually think we’re even further away from mass usability. Wallet creation / funding process and ongoing management is still too cumbersome for the masses.

Just as the stock market leads wider economic health, crypto prices lead wider adoption. Assets rising attracts talent and investment, which builds great products, attracting the masses.

12 months? Crypto is usable for a small fraction of users. At best, that fraction can grow over the next 12 months. I would say current bullishness is about exposure to the assets and TVL. No one is designing for the masses yet. Abstraction isn't totally there yet.

Prices won’t affect the adoption at the mass scale. We are still early and the UX is too poor to onboard average Jane and Joe. But we are getting there, slowly. Price action will help people notice this space.

ERC-4337 has a lot of work to do, plus will need to onboard many web2 products & services to realize the growth. 12 months feels too soon. Maybe the narrative of the next cycle?

There’s a learning curve to anything new. I recall how hard it was to get my head around the internet in 1996 on dial-up, or getting the hang of my first mobile phone. At this point in the adoption curve we always think the masses will find it too hard… but use-case & fomo make people learn pretty quick 😉
