Rivian R1S 1 week review:

It has been a week and have a better feel for how it compares to my IONIQ5 with Comma 3 for highway drive assist.  

After a rough first day of commuting where Driver + froze me out after not disengaging while going through a tunnel things have gone much better.  Liking the car more and more daily as I’m able to discover and use more of the features.  

I will do another post in 3 weeks for a month review. 

Pros:

Details done really damn well, trims look great, customizable accent lighting, vision roof tints on demand to block out a lot of light

Sports mode is insane, 0-60 in 3.4 seconds hits different with a car this big 

Software is top notch, having a dashboard display is 1000% better than Teslas tablet only bs

18 speaker sound system hits different 

Changing the car height and suspension on demand is cool, still dialing in my perfect setting

Having an onboard air compressor is legit, never going to use my bike pump again 

Casting media to the display works well when you’re hanging out in the car waiting 

Driver + highway driving assist is great on highways, changing lanes in most situations and always braking if there is a slowdown ahead 

Massive battery, 410 miles of range can get you most places 

Great vehicle to camp with dogs, tons of room.  Bought a mattress for the back that will sleep 2 people and some dogs easily 

Adaptive high beams that won’t blind  oncoming traffic 

360 camera is very helpful when parking 

Gear Guard is cool, similar to Teslas Sentry mode 


Cons

Driver + only works on highways and you can’t have lane keep assist setup on surface streets (unlike Comma 3 on IONIQ5)

Stuck using Rivian’s maps, no Apple Car Play compatibility 

Car is huge and not super power efficient 

Battery is massive and takes forever to charge

Rivian R1S 1 month review:

Tomorrrow makes one month with the Rivian and the owner experience is getting better and better.  I just bought out my lease so gonna have this thing long-term.

Still feel the same as my prior review with a few new pros.  Excited to take this thing on a legit road trip! 

✅ Google Maps navigation added to the infotainment in the most recent update.  

✅ Regular over the air updates continue to make the ownership experience better 

✅ Door handle lights that display the Rivian logo on the ground next to the car 

✅ Car auto adjusts height depending on speed for max efficiency and ride quality 

✅ Charged 1000 lumen flashlight in the drivers door

Air suspension is kick ass. My last wagon had it and my SUV doesn't and the ride is definitely not as good! How comfy is the interior?

First time I’ve had air suspension, took a bit to get used to but pretty cool.  Interior is great coming from a Hyundai IONIQ5.  They cut some costs from the Gen1 R1S but it’s an upgrade for me. 

Planning a big road trip in September, can’t wait for it
