Soon get to start tapering hours, reckon 2-3 more weeks of the push. Been working longer hours than any previous summer, not by design, just sorta worked out that way. Avg 100 hours/wk over the past month, normally just squeeze one of those weeks in each summer; yet we had some extra June heat, and unexpected crew shortages at less than ideal times, combined with great harvests & solid sales. Good work though.

How much do you work over winter?

Depends on the winter. Ease up Dec & Jan - anywhere from 3-5 days on the farm typically 9-4 or 5 take the entire holidays off for school break and donβt work weekends. Usually start taking Sunday afternoons off and donβt go back to work in the evening in mid Sept. We farm in a town with a big influx of summer folk so adds pressure to the high season. Most of my neighbors do sat markets in the winter, so my summer huse allows me to forego that work. Though thereβs also office work in the winter. A lot depends on how mild the weather is and what kinds of maintenance and construction projects we put on the to do list.
