Why is there a land between two countries belonging to neither of the two?? What!!. Just learnt about Kaliningrad which is russian but located between Lithuania and Poland. I'm sure if I do some historical research, there'll be an explanation that makes sense but still!

well, we used to interact quite a lot — lots of trips to Poland just for a weekend or to fly somere further via low-cost airlines. We also imported a lot of stuff — groceries, furniture, etc. It was easy to go to music concerts in Gdańsk, Warsaw, or Vilnius. There were lots of regional development programs — renovation, environmental protection, and so on. When COVID hit, the borders were shut and basically never reopened. We can still transit through Lithuania by car or train (without the right to stop or get out), but that’s pretty much it. Planes now have to detour over the sea, since they’re not allowed to fly over Lithuania anymore
