design is the practice of foregoing x to achieve y. give and take. high heels are the worst footwear design wrt comfort, but you wouldn’t wear running shoes to a wedding. aesthetic choices are often paired with compromise

i will defend this point of view til the cows come home but i’m not naive to the counter argument — a design isn’t truly finalized until all criteria is satisfied = the design is bad

reality is there’s no such thing as complete/perfection wrt design, that’s what’s interesting about the practice. design intent exists, constraints exist, timelines exist. have to make decisions, hopefully the right ones.

yeah thats the process, but izo good design means perfecting the ux so that it seems innate

tbh design can be simplified to the act of making decisions. cybertruck looks like it does because it’s made of heavy gauge steel = forego traditionally attractive automotive form to achieve excessive durability
