I think of optimization as a process, less an end point. A process of aligning values (what I say matters most, e.g. family) with behaviors (what it looks like, e.g. spending time with my kid). The more these things are aligned or in sync, the happier, healthier, or more "optimized" I feel/am. This level of clarity is pretty straight forward, and yet very difficult to achieve – or commit to – consistently over time. Like my grandmother used to say about bowling: It's a simple game... doesn't mean it's easy.
