what’s worse? >interacting with someone for a while only to discover they’re a bot >writing someone off as a bot only to discover that they’re a human

To me, the second is worse. Because it could hurt the other person’s feelings, instead of my own

For me, the former has me more impressed by the technology than there being any feeling of being cheated or deceived in some way The latter makes me feel bad, but I can’t help but think they’re using an LLM to help craft their text; perhaps they’re ESL and just trying to connect. This is me being *not* impressed by the technology and hopeful that it’ll get better and allow for more human connection in the world

I will say the first, second one doesn't mean much to me honestly. A good number of people behave very similar to bots, spammy, repetitive, generic. It's not our brain failing, its just that they behave like bots.

gotta take a few gambits in the wild in Column A and take it on the chin, because I think in the era we are entering, Column B is much worse

Discovering they are human is worse. Especially when they are friendly and nice. I always feel so guilty :(

the bot vs. human question is perhaps the wrong framing. the vast majority are not bots, they are real people but intermediated by LLMs to varying degrees of success. there are some former top 10 leaderboard posters who post 100% gen ai (text + image) and completely make up everything they’re talking about. but since it’s convincing, most don’t even notice. so, the bigger question is the extent to which we value authentic vs. inauthentic behaviour, whether we even care what is “real” or “fake”, and how we value content in this new paradigm. everything is grey imo, no black or white.

The second one since you know how many times folxs have thought bot wen not? Worse is when I was in a legit audio space and getting told I WAS A BOT. (guess it's time for me to train and get paid with my voice for AI)
