Ever wondered how old-school X-ray images were made?
It's not magic, it's the Gurney-Mott theory at work!
When X-rays hit a photographic film, they kickstart a chemical reaction in tiny silver bromide crystals.
1️⃣ An X-ray photon frees an electron from a bromide ion (Br⁻).
2️⃣ The electron gets trapped at a defect in the crystal.
3️⃣ A silver ion (Ag⁺) is attracted to the electron, forming a neutral silver atom (Ag).
This process repeats, building a tiny, invisible clump of silver atoms called a latent image. This is the blueprint that gets developed into the final X-ray we see! ⚛
