Hey Farcaster 👋 excited to be here and connect with new people!
Let's start our journey inside the human body! Ever wonder how we quickly check for a broken bone or what's going on in your chest? That's the job of the X-Ray! Think of it like a shadow puppet show: ⚪ White: The dense parts, like your bones, block the X-rays and show up bright white. ⚫ Black: Air (like in your lungs) lets the X-rays pass right through, looking black. 🔘 Grey: Soft tissues (muscle, fat) show up in shades of grey. It's fast, easy, and gives us a critical "blueprint" of your body. Don't worry about the radiation the dose is very small!
A latent image is an invisible X-ray image formed on the film before it’s developed.
Ever wondered how old-school X-ray images were made? It's not magic, it's the Gurney-Mott theory at work! When X-rays hit a photographic film, they kickstart a chemical reaction in tiny silver bromide crystals. 1️⃣ An X-ray photon frees an electron from a bromide ion (Br⁻). 2️⃣ The electron gets trapped at a defect in the crystal. 3️⃣ A silver ion (Ag⁺) is attracted to the electron, forming a neutral silver atom (Ag). This process repeats, building a tiny, invisible clump of silver atoms called a latent image. This is the blueprint that gets developed into the final X-ray we see! ⚛ #Science #Chemistry #Xray #Photography
