Just to share the pain of building a client as a solo-dev (with great support from the Sofistas) primarily vibe coding. Last week I noticed an unexpected $75 charge from Vercel (where I deploy the app to), surprising because I'd been monitoring all month to make sure it stayed within my $20 usage. On investigating it was down to my Neon database, which despite relatively little usage charges on an 'always on' type principle. And because the account was managed through Vercel neither party was showing the cost to me. (I've complained, we shall see what happens). Working this all out took a chunk of time. So either I keep spending like that, which will blow my budget while the only income is purple funding, or move to Supabase. What happened next is a tedious story of using AI to do a thing that I don't know much about (databases, drizzle, streams, open connections), and then spending hours of fractured attention fixing all the issues that a poor architectural decision up top caused. So now I'm writing this, having got a much simpler and robust architecture designed (I hope), while I wait for Antigravity to run through the implementation. Here's hoping it doesn't cause a whole load of new issues that I spend the next few days working through.
