Restraint against Israel and USA never paid off.
If you offer a hand, they'll take your arm. So you start the next conversation without your arm.
Syria, Venezuela, and especially Iran have experienced this. Every time Israel attacked, Iran followed de-escalation. Every year, Iran got closer and closer to US position in nuclear deal. Result: Their leader just got killed.
Next will be Cuba, then Colombia. These will be in the next 3 years.
Mexico and Russia will happen in the next round: Within 10 years.
Canada, and finally Europe. Within 20 years.
Europe will then learn what it means to always bow down to a hegemon.
