In November 2022, my laptop was hacked and the attacker drained my browser extension wallets. I lost ~$10K worth of crypto and NFTs 😱

I was devastated and couldn’t figure right away out how my laptop was compromised

Then, the attacker showed up 👀

But first, let me tell you how everything happened. A few days earlier, I received a DM on X. A stranger offered me to test his app and pay me to find bugs. He sent me a link. The website looked legit. I downloaded the app on my laptop and tried to install it but nothing happened. I sent a message to this person on X and told him his app isn’t starting. He sent me another link to download another version. I did but the result was the same - the app didn’t start. I became suspicious, removed the files from the laptop and never messaged this stranger again

It turned out this anonymous person from X was the attacker and what I tried to install on my laptop was a trojan horse that ran in the background without me noticing anything for days 💀

I'm surprised (and a bit concerned) that you executed a trojan horse and your antivirus didn't complain or anything.
