I just fell down rabbit-hole reading about mentalism and this guy Oz Pearlman. My inner-woo believes the idea that there's a lot of invisible, vibes-based layers to the world... body language, gut instinct, "the elephant in the room". So I would say I'm more likely to "believe" in mentalism than the average person. Anyways, I found a good explainer for the type of trick from the QC, these were some of the techniques he used: * Suggested "making up a random 4 digit number", then immediately pivots to the real PIN. Basically planting the idea that he could guess a random PIN ~if he wanted~, and anchor the thought that he is doing the harder, more spontaneous option * Says things like "if I gave you five minutes you'd do it differently", "I already got a hit", mentioning micro expressions and body language - these are just performance, he's window dressing the trick * Deflects when Joe asks to try it on a second PIN, "let's leave that for the end" and never does it

Apparently it's common for these guys have a "wire gang" (field assistant) that gather data to facilitate the trick. He likely had someone follow Joe around for a month until he went to the ATM and they could nab his code
