Absolutely devastating loss at the Grand Canyon North Rim. Built in 1937 (after the original burned down), it now lies in ruin. 

Thankfully everyone was evacuated in time because this fire tore through containment lines.

This place was a beautiful oasis for hikers coming from the south rim. I hate seeing this

If you want a similar vibe with less treachery, Zion is my favorite park in the southwest. You get the same energy without the radical change in altitude

Well semi athletic lol. I wouldn’t want to do that hike with my kids. Not because of their age. They are just annoying. Haha kidding. I don’t think they’d do well with that much hiking. I bet it is gorgeous. The memories are why we do all the things we do. I want them to have those to cherish when we are gone 🙏

If you’re an athletic family and the kids are old enough, I’d highly recommend hiking across over 2 or 3 days. We did it in a day because we couldn’t get the overnight permit. It’s brutal going down and brutal getting out but it’s a long beautiful walk on the moon once you’re in it. 

Kids often won’t care but the memories will catch up w them
