technically, malaysia is secular. this is still highly contested/debated. article 3(1) neither defines secular/islamic state, and also while saying there is a religion of the federation, mentions others are free to be practiced. 

legally, we are secular (important!) - unless you're muslim for some things.

to me, malaysia is secular. but quite often, a lot of people think its a muslim country. the federal constitution doesn't spell it out, but i would love for it to remain secular. it is the malaysia i know best.

malaysia has a oppressive issue re: non-bumiputeras (58% only are muslim, the rest aren't, sabah/sarawak/etc.). but then they also have one re: malays technically (who have to constitutionally be muslim).

i guess this sort of thing is best chatted over a fresh pour of tiger beer (or bintang beer).

funny how malaysians and indonesians love to preach they are not a muslim country and proud of being tolerant, but in reality it's them being oppressive on non-muslims
