Ok, so I'm going to share this experience because I think it's important. I recently completed the KYC process for the Moxie retrogrant. I did this for the Burr Frens poker club. If this were up to me, I would not have completed this. I was not informed that I'd have to submit my passport and utility bill in order to receive this grant. Let's dive in π«‘ First off, it's through gatenox - idk much about them, but let's assume they are a reputable and secure site

Next, I am told that I will have to provide an identity document and pass a "likeness check" At this point idk what this means but I continue on.

I'm told that ONLY MY PASSPORT OR ID CARD are acceptable. A valid driver's license is not. If you need to go through this process, go hunt down your passport. The "liveness check" requires you to be on video and photograph yourself at different angles so that it can compare your passport photo to your "live self" Thankfully I passed this verification but man, this is A LOT.

I thought I was done, but here is where I became most annoyed. Now, I have to verify my residence with a utility bill. Are you kidding me? This is intrusive. I would not have continued on here if it weren't for Burr Frens. I have to expose my residence and address to these people. I hunt down a utility bill and upload it.

Ugh! Some US citizens don't even have passports. In my case, mine has expired and I haven't gone through the not-simple process of renewing it yet so I wouldn't have been able to proceed with this at all. But yeah, unfortunately, KYC is always going to be this invasive. You have to provide an address and prove your identity so that the IRS can make sure to tax you appropriately and the FBI can track you for potential money laundering. If you've done KYC for crypto stuff before that seemed easier, it was probably because you might have just attached your bank account to something and they already have all your info.
